Creative Critical Reflection - Music Video

1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?      Our group's product challenges conventions in many ways. At face value, the music video looks like an all-around happy, carefree, upbeat music video. The assumptions are happy. However, once you begin examining the video, you will see that not everything is so happy. Characters can be observed hiding themselves under an umbrella and then revealing themselves and dancing. This also represents the social issue of depression and mental health. We tried to push the notion that you never truly know what someone is going through in their head. While people may show themselves as happy online or in public, you never know what is going on in their private life. It was definitely a good hidden message. Even though the music is upbeat, bright, and happy, there is always that hidden message that the characters might not feel the same way as how they present themselves. This makes the

Happy Music Video

This is my second major project of the year. This time it was with a new group so you could say that this was our groups first major project of the year. This Music Video was to the song Happy by Pharrell Williams. We really tried our best to emphasize the joy of this song and act out some of the lyrics. Anyways, thank you for watching the Music Video and I will talk again in the next blog!

Production Blog - Filming Tomorrow! (Again)

Hello and welcome back to the blog. Today I will be discussing my plans for what I will do tomorrow while filming. As you know from my previous blog posts, I plan on following the storyboard as much as possible this time around. I want to focus on character development as well as a storyline. I don't want the story to be obvious but I want things to signify emotions. I want people to have to really look into the music video to see a story. So, I used an umbrella to signify sadness and characters would throw the umbrella away to signify them as getting back into a happy mood. I want this music video to really kind of be centered around emotions. For filming locations, we have that figured out from scouting from last time. There is a little area near the fellowship hall that has an overhang and could be a good place to film a low angle shot. I also discovered a place near the beach with pretty christmas lights that could be pretty good for the music video's aesthetic. We also th

Production Blog: Editing

Hello and welcome back to the blog. I have gathered all of the clips from the filming session yesterday and I put them together today. I have cut the videos into clips that are applicable for use in the video. I used the program, iMovie on my MacBook in order to edit. I think I did a good job with editing the clips. I believe I have set myself up for easy editing once the rest of the clips are filmed on Friday. When editing I already put the music into the file so I have already gotten started with the main editing. I had also put some clips together on top of the music. For missing scenes, I decided to put still images that signify that there needs to be a clip put in. The video isn't done but I say I am about halfway done with it. That is good progress. For Friday, I want to add more characters into the music video.  By this I mean to add people "closing the umbrella" which signifies them as getting rid of their sadness. I want to do this because it follows the storybo

Hello Again and Welcome back to the blog! I have finished the first filming session and I have a lot to tell. We began the day by filming the opening scene and it turned out well. We began to film random dancing around the park. We recorded angel doing a dance in a nearby alleyway, Thomas dancing in front of the fellowship hall, and I danced in front of a Fire Truck that was decorated with Christmas Lights. We had only enough time for a couple shots before the sun set but that didn't really limit us as we had to scout out shots for filming on Friday. We found a little walkway that was all blue, perfect for filming, we had found a sidewalk with a lot of christmas lights which we may use and we also thought of possibly filming on the beach. There were a lot of other spots we found, but they might not be used. It is a really great place for filming. In total we shot 6 scenes that may or may not be used. I also think it was a good experience. I had a lot of fun filming. There were a l

Hello Again and Welcome back to the blog. Last blog I discussed what my group would be doing to film the music video and who would be doing what. Me and my group will be filming tomorrow. We have also made adjustments to the schedule. Me and my group will be filming tomorrow but we will only shoot scenes that require 3 people or less. We are doing this because most of the people we have contacted said they weren't able to help film on a weekday. Because of this, we have moved the rest of the filming to Friday, December 16th. We plan to film solo dances as well as the intro to the music video. There won't be much people around the area on a Tuesday afternoon so it works out perfectly. We also plan on scouting out some good locations to shoot at on Friday. After the first filming session I also plan on editing some of the clips together so I don't have to do it all in one day. This will be done some time in between Tuesday and Friday. Also, I will be editing the Music Video

Production Blog: Plans for the Music Video

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog. Over the past few days, my groupmates and I have been deciding who should do what before recording the music video. Over the past couple days we have been assigning characters and parts for our music video. For one of the scenes, we decided to have someone playing basketball. We decided the person playing this role should be wearing athletic gear. For this, we chose Thomas Ferner. The downside of this is that he does not play basketball so i may require a couple takes to get the scene right. For the next few scenes, Me and Angel will be introduced by Umbrellas. The first scene has only one person and the 2nd scene was with two people. One of these scenes includes us filming on in an alleyway where we would dance and act "happy". Then, for a bike scene, we selected Angel. I live nearby and have a nice green cruiser bike. The rest of the props will be brought by myself as I live nearby to the location. I will provide the umbrellas an
