Planning Blog: Title Design

Image
Hello again, everyone! Last time on our blog, we made a blueprint for our storyboard. The blueprint was a typed-out version of our vision for our storyboard. Now, we will be thinking about title design for our short film. Going into this, we knew that we were trying to mainly follow the thriller genre, with a hint of mystery and drama. As a reminder, our pitch is about a  guy that lives with his best friend. He and his friend are very close, they do everything together, however, his friend isn't actually real and it is only a hallucination. In order to follow these parameters, we first needed to follow the thriller genre. Thanks to our extensive research on the genre, we were able to take reference and inspiration from the movies and titles we had studied. We knew that our title needed to be suspenseful and give a little bit of insight as to what our story would be about, with an 'Easter egg' as to the plot of the story, which only could be understood by people who alr

Planning Blog: Location, participants, health, schedule

Hello everyone and welcome back to the blog! For our film location we decided on the park we filmed our music video in. Also, we want to incorporate a house into it so any of the group members one will suffice. The park allows us to change scenery and give us the vibe we’re looking for. While the house lets us show the everyday struggles of the main character. In the case we can’t film at the same park we can settle for another one closer to all of us. Any park will do but the one we have in mind is our top choice. We want to use the park for scenes that show the character in the real world and interactions with others. Scenes filmed in the house show how he is behind closed doors and the hurdles he faces. The state of the main character is bad as he suffers from dementia. This is why he imagines his friend and even reports him missing. The props that we will need for the film aren’t very complicated. We plan to use everyday things such as a phone, alarm clock, car, and furniture. Th

Title Research: Bad Sisters

Image
For our 3rd Blog, we researched ‘Bad Sisters’ which we found from art of the titles 1.       What titles are displayed during the opening sequences? At the end of the mysterious opening sequence, the title card “Bad Sisters” is shown in a plain background and plain manner, but due to the previous images, it was still mysterious and suspenseful. Aside from this, some other credits and titles are shown. This includes a ctors, directors, producers, music artists, and some other titles. 2.       What images are prioritized in the opening sequence? Images of weapons capable of violence are being used in a Rube-Goldberg-Style machine. This creates suspense and gives insight as to what some of the film will be about. The opening’s main purpose is to add suspense, as a thriller should. This is complimented by an appropriately added song which perfectly captures what the studio was aiming to attain. 3.         What connotations do these images carry? The images shown in the openin

Title Research: Watch the Titles website

Image
The next website that we found was ‘watch the titles’. This website contains featured films and event titles which covers the most innovative films. This makes the process of researching so much easier and enables more creativity. Also it has student projects which is excellent since it shows examples of what we can do. We find this amazing as we can see what other students from different parts have created for their opening sequence. The website showed us that video games also create films to better represent their mission. The website has a special tab for French movies created by two specific filmmakers during the 1950s to 1960s. The website stated that French Films flourished during this time which is also another thing I learned. The website initially started as a hobby but grew popularity through fans and students watching and recreating opening sequences. Finally, this website is definitely going to contribute in the making of a perfect opening sequence.

Genre Research: Bird Box

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?   People cannot look outside at the real world as there is some sort of mysterious force that plagues their eyes which then controls what they do. This movie follows a family of three and their adventures and struggles they face to make it to a safe sanctuary blindfolded. This movie is not that similar plot wise. However, the Mise-En-Scene is very similar. Bird box uses a lot of close-up shots, handheld camera movement, and tracking. Bird box also uses Everyday clothing. Everyday clothing is used a lot in thrillers to create realism and to create a relatable connection between the character and the audience. Limited amount of makeup is also used to make it more realistic.       What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?   There were many elements that our group enjoyed in this movie. However, we narrowed it down to a few genres related ones. In Bird box the movie keeps you on

Joker is a Crime Thriller that follows a comedian who is trying to make it big in a dangerous Gotham city. Overall, the film was good with a remarkably interesting storyline that made you want to keep watching. The film uses many elements linked with the thriller genre, like for example, close-up shots. close-up shots are used to display the character’s emotions and give dramatic effect. A lot of the film takes place in dimly lit settings which correlates to the emotion of the film. A lot of tracking and panning is also used which drags out the revealing of certain objects that keep the audience on edge. What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?   Whilst watching the film we saw that the Joker’s backstory includes dark moments as it shows Arthur’s abusive childhood and upbringing. This is what flawed hi

- What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?   The main character’s best friend was just a figment of his mind, which was revealed at the end of the movie. He was a creation of everything the main character wanted to be, and when the main character became this, the friend vanished. The movie is remarkably similar to our film idea through elements such as having a flawed main character. Our protagonist has a degree of schizophrenia which is how he is able to conjure a best friend in his mind. Another similar element is that we intend our characters to be dynamic, unique, and interesting to the audience.   - What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?   While there were many elements that we enjoyed in the movie. However, we will narrow it to our favorite few genre-related elements. The protagonist was slightly flawed and insane but very likeable and entertaining. Furthermore, all the characters shown during the movie w
